Tweak Your Mac OS X!

author alang

Well, it’s been quite some time since I have written a blog post, and I really cannot explain myself. Anyhow, I do plan to try and write three blog posts a week at minimum. And I’ll start with what I have today.

Yesterday I went and bought a Mac Mini (basic 60 GB HD, 512 MB RAM, 1.67 Ghz – 2 GB of RAM are coming in the mail) and have been going through several programs to see what works for me for Mac OS X. And, to be honest, they’re all great. Mac OS X programs are all designed very well, even if they’re only managed by a single person, the GUI flows extremely well. And with that I have a very nice application for Mac OS X user that wont leave you disappointed.

The program is Onyx. Onyx is a Mac OS X performance enhancer and hacker (to some degree). You can wipe the cache and do some minor tweaks to improve performance. My boot time literally halved after I ran this program once and it tweaked the basic Mac OS X preferences. But that’s not all!

Ever wanted the dock bar on the top of the screen? Howabout not making the dock bar centered and having it in the lower left hand corner? Well now you can. But not to be light about it, it can also add a shadow to the dock and give you the option of a third animation for minimizing/maximizing: the Suck Effect.

Though I appear to only be talking about the dock, it also can modify Finder itself, Dashboard, Expose’, Safari and your Login Screen to name a few. Overall Onyx is one of the best Mac OS X programs I’ve seen thus far, and, if anything, it’ll make your Mac run like new whenever you run it and clear the cache.
