Mac OS X 10.4.9 Released

author alang

On Tuesday Apple released an update to their current operating system Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

The update introduces version 10.4.9, and includes a number of bug fixes, performance boosts, drivers, and more.

The update resolves many Rosetta-related problems. Rosetta is the a program in Mac OS X Tiger that allows Intel-based Macs to run PowerPC applications at near full speeds.

Mac OS X 10.4.9 addresses multiples issues with Rosetta and various PowerPC-based applications such as LEGO StarWars, Adobe InDesign, H&R Block TaxCut, and more.

The update also fixes the reliability of OpenGL-accelerated graphics in video games such as Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, allowing faster and smoother gameplay.

The update also includes new nVidia and ATi graphics drivers, security updates, DST-related updates, and more.

The update also allows users to use USB Video Class webcams with iChat, rather than only allowing iSight to work.

The update is available for both PowerPC and Intel Macs. Users can simply update by pressing the Apple menu then selecting “Software Update”.

A combo update is available to update from 10.4.x to 10.4.9 (see this article).

If you are updating from 10.4.8, read about the Mac OS X 10.4.9 (Delta) update here.
