Jeff Han, you better hurry, Jobs is going to trademark your tech.

On June 30th, Apple Incorporated filed for the trademark of “Multi-touch”. This is how the filing reads:

IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. G & S: Handheld mobile digital electronic devices with electronic mail, digital data transmission, audio player, video player, handheld computer, personal digital assistant, electronic organizer, electronic notepad, telephone, computer gaming, and camera functions, and computer software for use with such devices

Again, I am an Apple fanboy, but as business-brilliant as this is, it is pretty shady. I think they should split the Trademark with Jeff Han. He is the one who brought it to us first (even though most are sure he’s using an extremely modified version of Mac OS X for the widely seen demonstration… or maybe he just emulated Google Earth with some kind of skin to an unskinnable App). Like I said, it is business brilliant! Think of how many companies are going to try and deploy multi-touch interfaces and call it that? Apple will make a fortune if those companies try to call it Multi-Touch. It would be the same thing if they tried to trademark the term “mouse” back in 1984.

I guess Jobs saw the error of his ways. And by error I mean allowing for competition… Oh well I guess we can sit back and watch the filing be denied when the government realizes who Jeff Han is.

Maybe Jeff Han was funded by Apple and it was contracted that the technology would be used for them and them only?

I doubt Apple would make room for legal issues, the media is hugely influencial in Apple’s success.
