Intel’s GMA X3000 - DirectX 10?

author alang

Intel’s GMA X3000 is a replacement chip for the GMA 900 and 950. It features “programmable pipelines”, meaning with a simple driver update it could be upgraded to be fully DirectX10 compatible and Shader Model 4.0.

This would be pretty useful, since a lot of people don’t have enough money for powerful nVidia GeForce 8800, or lack of PCI-Express 16x. nVidia and ATi could possibly introduce this feature into their video cards to add new features to the video cards without ever buying any extra hardware.

Since the x3000 features programmable pipelines, a nearby upgrade to DirectX 10 is possible (although it is unconfirmed).
