EDGE Network Speeds Get A Serious Boost… Apple Says, “Screw You, Pogue!”

author alang

Well, today’s the day. June 29th. The arrival of the iPhone. A couple days ago, the tech editor for the New York Times, David Pogue gave the iPhone a good review but called EDGE “excruciatingly slow.” Ouch…if you didn’t have something up your sleeve. And, ladies and gentleman (mostly gentleman I assume), this is Apple. They always have something up their sleeve. Most cellular-savvy consumers are aware of EDGE’s speeds of right around 5kb/sec. Now, consumers in major metropolitan areas are reporting speeds of up to 365kb/s. That’s not incredibly fast compared to 3G, but it is at least a major step up from the almost-less-than-dial-up speeds before.

Just in time for the iPhone. As much of a surprise as this comes to most, it makes perfect sense and is actually one of those things that should have been done in the first place…

So, Who’s getting one within the next month or so? If so, I’d like you to leave a comment offering to give us your impression once you get yours.

On Pogue’s YouTube video he said that the AT&T connection sucks. It always has, it always will. But he also said that the built in wifi (airport I assume) was top-notch, meaning if you live in a 10 MB/s wifi zone, you’ll get 10 MB/s.
