Unhappy Help - ATi Driver deletes hibernation ability and messed up startup
Last night I shut down my computer instead of hibernating, because it wouldn't hibernate. I turned on my computer this morning and, in a 640x840 resolution, the tiger wall comes up. No Flyakite logon. I press the down key twice, press enter, enter my password, press enter, I'm logged on.

That was caused by a new install of the ATi Driver. My current one was damaged, so I reinstalled. Don't worry, I fixed that.

When I went to shut down when I was done, the stand by button was gone. Even pressing shift didn't make it come up. So I go to the power options settings (that's actually the window title). No hibernation tab.

Now I have to wait 12 minutes just for the computer to start. Hibernation made it only take 3 minutes to warm back up.

How do I get my beloved Hibernation back??? I will have to wait FOREVER to start up that stupid windows computer!!!

Please help!

Thanks to all who do help!!!

Whooooooo 3 minutes to boot up from hibernation that should only take a couple of seconds!

Looks like you may need to reinstall windows at least that way you won't loose all your data!

When you lose the hibernation capabilities, the unique thing you can try is to reinstall the graphic drivers or reboot in safe mode / disable hibernation / check hard disks for errors / restart in safe mode again / enable hibernation again.

That will clean up the hibernation file. Perhaps that's your problem.

Re: Help - ATi Driver deletes hibernation ability and messed up startup
The thing is that when I reinstaled the graphic drivers, I had no hibernation capabilites. But I'll try reinstalling again. I still have the file somewhere. I'm also going to delete some programs that startup so the restarts I'm gonna have to do don't take long. (Goodbye, beloved Yahoo! Widget Engine. I'm uninstalling that now.) I'll alert all of my progress.

Try using a driver cleaner.
