Re: Tips/tweaks for Windows
Configure Windows XP to Automatically Login

Click Start, Run and type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2, and click Ok. Select the user account from the list (to which account you want to automatically logon). Uncheck Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer option, and click Ok. Type the user account password and complete the process.

Ps. So is aquaman99.
Maybe you two can become best friends!

Be nice please!

To set the icon of any drive (hard disk, cd rom or anything else) with a letter (C etc.), run REGEDIT (Start -> Run -> regedit)

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer

If one doesn't already exist, create a new KEY called "DriveIcons". Under this key, create a new key with the letter of your drive.

I.e. C for your C drive.

To change the icon for that drive, create a key inside that one called DefaultIcon and set the path of (Default) to the location of your icon

eg C\DefaultIcon\
then (Default) = DDocuments\C Drive Icon.ico

Get the Tweak UI Powertoy to change a bunch of hidden settings: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx and scroll to Tweak UI on the side.

Re: Tips/tweaks for Windows
Stop Windows XP from asking if you want to send a report to Microsoft whenever a program crashes

* Open System in the Control Panel (or right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties.

* Choose the Advanced tab, and click Error Reporting.

* You can disable error reporting entirely here, or enable it selectively for certain programs. Click Ok when you're done.

Re: Tips/tweaks for Windows
System folders which you can empty to save you diskspace:
CWINDOWS\Temp
CWINDOWS\Prefetch
CWINDOWS\Downloaded Installations
CWINDOWS\system32\dllcache
CWINDOWS\Installer (in this case you have to check which installers you don't need and then delete them)
CWINDOWS\Help (this solution is optionally, if you don't need system help you can follow this tip)
CDocuments and Settings\(*your username*)\Local Settings\Temp
CDocuments and Settings\(*your username*)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

Re: Tips/tweaks for Windows
For those who want to remove the user name and user account picture from Start Menu, in order to have a blank blue panel at the top, try this:

Start Windows Explorer and go to this folder:
CDocuments and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures

From that folder, rename the BMP file which corresponds to your user account.
( For example, if your username is Robert, rename Robert.bmp to old_Robert.bmp )

Next, rename the following folder:
CDocuments and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures

to something else, say...

CDocuments and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\No_Default Pictures

To remove the user name, follow these steps
Start regedit.exe and navigate to the this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft\ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer

In the right-pane, set NoUserNameInStartMenu value-data to 1
Close Regedit.exe and restart Windows.

Re: Tips/tweaks for Windows
Windows Quick Tip:
When using TweakUI with FlyakiteOSX, do not do anything in the Repair section; this can ruin FlyakiteOSX.

You can actually rename My Network Places, your HD name, and a few other things that may seem to not be rename-able.

osxdude - this Tip is not only applicable for only FlyakiteOSX - for ALL transformation packs.

The Powertoys Alt-Tab Switcher is a great alternative to the boring alt-tab switcher that belongs to windows. It allows the Alt-tab switcher to follow the MSstyle and have a screenshot of the windows.

To get the Powertoys for all including in madmacs post and more Powertoys, see here.
