Tiger Calculator Clone
Good news for the Mac Simulation Community! Here is a new free application for you to add to your database of mac-like apps. It is called "Tiger Calculator Clone" and as the name indicates, it is a clone of the new calculator gadge that will come with Apple's newest OS Tiger. This project took me 2 months to complete and it is entirely made using VB.NET. For more information, please visit the website here:

http://www.tigercalculatorclone.cjb.net

The website is not completely done yet and I do not have the download link right now, but I am submitting it to the Download section and as soons as it is available to download it, I will post a note here.

If you want to see screenshot of my project, visit the website and look in the Screenshots sections. I posted 7 pictures there.

Please, post any comments, recommnendations, or questions here. Thanks for reading the post and visiting the website.

No, I did not pay for it. I as well as my classmates received it from my Visual Basic. Net Instructor as part of the package to learn it. I know it is very expensive if I go ahead to buy it.

are you using full alpha blending for the edges of the widget? i can't tell from the tiny little scrambled thumbnails on the website. if so how did you accomplish this in VB.Net?

Well, that is the only thing I am not happy with by using VB.net. I did accomplish all of the goals I had in mind when I started doing this project in vb, except the custome form shape. It used to be very easy some time ago using alpha blending or transparency, but now there is a new problem with that feature in vb and the color resolution in Windows: It does not work for resolutions higher that 16MB. I tried to go around it and try to find a way so that the corners where kind of circular, but no luck. I tryied using the draw points technique through code and no luck either. So, what I was forced to do was try to cut out as much of the corners and borders I could using Photoshop CX and when you see the final result you will understand and see what I did.

I hope this is an easy explanation for you Careyt and for the readers of this post. if I am using any terms or technique your are not familiar with, let me know and I will try to explain better.

Oh now I understand you can't get the corners to be circular only pointy!

Yeap, thatís right. I also used the same background color as the outer thin orange frame so that is not too visible.

By the way, I finished adding the last elements to my project a few minutes ago, and I just submitted it under the Download/Applications section. I hope you all like it! Let me know what you think of it after you download and try it on your PCs.

Also, once you install it check the Flash Help System in the Start menu/Tiger Calculator Clone folder. It has all the info you need to know about the calculator, including instructions on how to use it, explanations of its elements and pictures. I also included an htm file called Go to Website in this same folder, which has 4 links on it:

Tiger Calculator Website
My Website
Virtual Mac OS X 10.3 Website
My Virtual Room Project Website

Check these websites if you have time and tell me if you liked them too.
